5/1/14. I took a full day off yesterday in Umatilla, Oregon. My friend Robert J. Humpheys, who brought me the breakfast burritos Monday morning, made me aware of a walkway on I-82 where I could cross back into Oregon and take U.S. route 730 directly to U.S. route 12 and then to Walla Walla, Washington, instead of going through Kennewick, Washington, some 60 miles out of my way. He drove there to check it out for me and even found a shortcut to the footpath and the next day, guided me to it via phone when I reached I-82! Nice to have good friends. It’s good to finally be heading east even though I know I’ve got many desolate areas to cross in Idaho, Montana, and the Dakotas.
